Position Summary

In 2012, a development group approached The Gettys Group Companies with a proposal for a new kind of engagement: to leverage our hotel design agency’s expertise, high-level industry relationships, and talent for creating differentiation through design for the fast-growing select-service hotel sector.

Over the next year, we carefully adapted our design, approval and documentation processes to deliver the time and budgetary efficiencies demanded by select-service hotel development, creating an entirely new breed of design offering for the sector: consultative, professional, expert.

Since then, our unmatched experience has earned us the respect of the sector’s best-known brands and most successful developers, who have turned to us for hundreds of projects across the country over the past 9 years.

Reporting to the Studio Lead, the Project Designer creates, manages and performs as part of the design team in a self-directed manner in all aspects of the Interior Design process including preparation of materials, schematic design, design development, contract documentation, and construction of administration activities within an established budget with specific scheduling, site and programmatic requirements. Project Designers lead segments of a project, depending on scope, in conjunction with the Senior Project Designer and team leadership.

This role is currently remote, however, we hope to resume in-person work in our Chicago office when we are able to do so safely.

 

Requirements

Position Responsibilities

  • Translate design direction to project team in accordance with team leadership, brand-specific standards and brand guidelines

  • Direct project team to produce design documents that meet brands’ submittal standards

  • Perform Quality Control exercises on one’s own work as well as the work of other team members

  • Manage project tasks in accordance with project schedules

  • Complete comprehensive project tasks efficiently in a prescribed time frame with minimal feedback/redlines from team leadership

Job Requirements

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong oral presentation skills; able to participate in client presentations and workshops

  • Strong experience in managing and leading successful projects and/or teams

  • Strong understanding of hotel brand structures, standards and requirements

  • Strong experience working with project budgets

  • Demonstrate collaborative and professional work ethic

  • Self-directed and motivated

Technical Skills

  • Strong experience with construction materials and FF&E specifications/providers

  • Strong experience in project design specifications, construction documentation, production, material selection and construction administration, including shop drawing review

  • Strong graphic and presentation skills in AutoCAD (current release preferred), InDesign, Photoshop and SketchUp

  • Strong knowledge in specification writing (SPEXX experience preferred)

  • Strong understanding and knowledge of design principals, theories, color and materials

  • Strong project management ability to plan / oversee project tasks in accordance with contract and project fee

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor/Master Degree in Interior Design or Architecture from a CIDA-accredited or NAAB-accredited program

  • 6+ years of post-graduate professional Design experience, preferably within the hospitality industry

  • Strong design portfolio required
