The Project Designer designs, manages and performs within a design team in a self-directed manner in all aspects of the Interior Design process including preparation of materials, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, rendering and construction of administration activities within an established budget with specific scheduling, site and programmatic requirements.  Works alongside Technical Designers as a team throughout the design phases, and supports Technical Designers to coordinate and implement designs through contract document and construction administration process.

A Project Designer leads parts of or an entire project with an emphasis on design concepting and FFE, and leads project teams in conjunction with the Senior Technical Designer, Senior Project Designer and team leadership.

EDUCATION

Bachelor / Master Degree in Interior Design or Architecture from a CIDA-   accredited or NAAB-accredited program

EXPERIENCE

6 – 8 years

ACCREDITATION

NCIDQ preferred

 

GENERAL SKILLS

  • Strong written communication skills
  • Strong oral presentation skills; able to participate in client presentations and workshops
  • Demonstrates collaborative and professional work ethic
  • Self-directed and motivated
  • Complete comprehensive project tasks efficiently in a prescribed time frame with very minimal feedback / redlines from team leadership
  • Willing and able to manage client and brand relationships
  • Strong experience in directing and motivating design staff within the studio and project teams
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with outside vendors and consultants

 

JOB REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Strong experience with construction materials and FF&E selections/providers/specifications
  • Strong experience in project design specifications, construction documentation, production, material selection, shop drawing review and construction administration (with emphasis on FFE)
  • Strong graphic skills in AutoCAD (current release preferred)
  • Strong experience with InDesign, Photoshop and SketchUp
  • Knowledge of 3-D rendering in Enscape
  • Strong knowledge in specification writing (SPEXX experience preferred)
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of design principals, theories, color and materials
  • Perform Quality Control exercises on one’s own work as well as the work of other team members (with emphasis on FFE, support Technical Designer as necessary with general construction items.
  • Able to manage and complete project tasks in accordance with project schedules; experience in managing and leading successful projects
  • Strong understanding of hotel brand structures and standards, requirements, and project budgets
  • Translate design direction to project team in accordance with team leadership, brand-specific standards, and brand guidelines; direct project team to produce design documents that meet brands’ submittal standards
  • Strong project management ability to plan/oversee day-to-day and monthly tasks and time as it relates to monthly hours allocated by team leader
