Project Designer

The Project Designer leads parts of or an entire project and lead project teams in conjunction with the Senior Project Designer and team leadership.

The Project Designer designs, manages and performs within a design team in a self-directed manner in all aspects of the Interior Design process including preparation of materials, schematic design, design development, contract documentation, rendering and construction of administration activities within an established budget with specific scheduling, site and programmatic requirements.



Position Responsibilities

  • Translate design direction to project team in accordance with team leadership, brand-specific standards, and brand guidelines; direct project team to produce design documents that meet brands’ submittal standards

  • Complete comprehensive project tasks efficiently in a prescribed time frame with very minimal feedback / redlines from team leadership

  • Manage project tasks in accordance with project schedules

  • Manage client and brand relationships

  • Participate in client presentations and workshops

  • Perform Quality Control exercises on one’s own work as well as team members’ work

  • Demonstrate collaborative and professional work ethic


    Job Requirements

  • Strong understanding and knowledge of design principals, theories, color and materials

  • Strong experience with construction materials / FF&E selections and providers

  • Strong experience in project design specifications, construction documentation, production, material selection, shop drawing review and construction administration

  • Strong understanding of hotel brand structures and standards, requirements, and project budgets

  • Experience in managing and leading successful projects

  • Strong project management ability to plan/oversee day-to-day and monthly tasks and time as it relates to fee established by team leader

  • Strong written communication skills

  • Strong oral presentation skills

  • Self-directed and motivated


    Technical Skills

  • Strong graphic skills in AutoCAD (current release preferred), InDesign, Photoshop and SketchUp

  • Strong knowledgeable in specification writing (SPEXX experience preferred)


    Education & Experience

  • Bachelor Degree in Interior Design or Architecture from a CIDA-accredited or NAAB-accredited program

  • 6-8 years professional Design experience, preferably within the hospitality industry

  • NCIDQ accreditation preferred

  • Strong design portfolio required
