The Controller will oversee the day-to-day accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, and cash management for the company. The Controller is responsible for providing a solid foundation of analysis for projects and business practices by managing contracts, ensuring fiscal health of assigned projects, and mentoring and supporting the project management across all groups. The Controller will collaborate with the project managers to determine budget and deadlines, coordinate payment schedules for vendors and subcontractors, monitor each phase to ensure the project remains within financial guidelines, and provide financial leadership and transparency in support of driving a project performance-based culture.

Requirements

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Manage the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger
  • Oversee and monitor the budgeting and forecasting process at the project, group and company levels
  • Establish and maintain effective internal control systems including schedule, cost, quality and change controls, to safeguard company assets, ensure compliance with financial regulations, and mitigate financial risks
  • Prepare, analyze and distribute timely financial reports and statements across all projects, groups and companies, including domestic and international entities
  • Manage the annual audit process and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements
  • File monthly sales tax returns and remittance within various US states
  • Development of the annual operating expense and capital expenditure budgets
  • Manage the company’s cash flow, including forecasting and monitoring cash balances
  • Collaborate with Leadership Team to establish credibility, ensuring accurate and consistent billing and financial reporting at the project and group levels
  • Manage and maintain organized project contract files throughout the project lifecycle
  • Understand contract terms as it relates to fee management
  • Maintain an effective internal control environment and implement improvements where necessary
  • Supervise and develop the accounting team
  • Special projects as requested by the Chief Financial Officer

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, Master’s degree an asset; CPA designation preferred.
  • 7+ years proven experience as a Controller or similar role; preferably in a professional service firm
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial analysis, and financial reporting standards (GAAP or IFRS)
  • Significant experience in the review and analysis of strategic, operational and transaction financial information.
  • Experience in business process review, design, implementation and oversight.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and make data-driven decisions.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other accounting software
  • Ability to manager multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadline
